Award notification for the award of the Philanthropist and Citizen of the Year (2005)

Released on = June 29, 2006, 6:58 am

Press Release Author = Dr. Habib Siddiqui, Chairman of Board of Directors,
Bangladesh Expatriate Council

Industry = Non Profit

Press Release Summary = After months of searches and thorough analysis, the Board of
Directors of Bangladesh Expatriate Council (http://www.bangladeshexpat.org) have
agreed on two persons for the award of the Philanthropist and Citizen of the Year
(2005). They are:
Award for the Philanthropist of the year (2005): (late) Dr. Imdad Khan of San
Francisco Bay. He was a retired NASA physicist who later got into real estate
business. He contributed financially to the ORCA Fund for kidney
dialysis/operations.

Award for the Citizen of the year (2005): Mr. Abdullahel Baki, Superintendent of
Police, Mymensingh for his courageous actions against politically connected and
powerful land-grabbing miscreants and thugs. His honesty, sincerity, courage,
devotion to law and justice, and willing to risk his own career and life without any
monetary incentive for what is right, lawful and just makes him a role model for
Bangladeshi civil servants. It is indeed refreshing and encouraging to find such a
public servant in the midst of an ingrained and insidious culture of corruption in
the core.
