Plucky Toby endures brutal race for wish-granting children`s charity

Released on: October 14, 2007, 11:14 am

Press Release Author: Jenna Weekes/Round Table Children\'s Wish

Industry: Non Profit

Press Release Summary: Endurance event raises £2,800 for Round Table Children\'s Wish

Press Release Body:
SURVIVING a gruelling 140mile mountainous endurance race in torrential rain helped
Toby Chisnall raise £2,800 for Round Table Children’s Wish.

The 35-year-old from Corfe Mullen described the three-day Endurance Life event from
North to South Wales as “brutal.”

It took him 22 hours and 45 minutes to cycle, kayak and run the mountainous route
from Conwy, over Snowdonia to Aberdovey in the South. At night he camped on the
mountainside. He and teammate Gary Newitt, 40, from Oxford, finished third in the
event on Sunday September 23.

Toby said: “The rain was just unbelievable; every raindrop was stinging. At the end
of the second day I was shivering so much I couldn’t even hold my coffee.
“It was incredibly hard and I hit a really low point half way through but we were
determined to finish.

“The children that RTCW grants wishes for are so poorly, yet all they ask for is
some toys or a once in a lifetime experience – it is humbling.”

Toby’s money has been earmarked for a trip to Lapland for one little boy who is
fighting cancer.

Davina Nichols, a fundraising coordinator at Moordown-based Round Table Children’s
Wish, said: “What Toby has achieved is incredible. Completing the race itself is an
amazing achievement – not to mention eight months of hard training in preparation.
We are incredibly grateful.”

Toby, who works as a project manager for RIAS is already preparing for his next
challenge - the Snowdon Marathon at the end of October.
