Press Release Body: SocialElves and Others Threatening Digg's Control over Their Own
Website
Digg.com - leading the social bookmarking revolution - is losing its handle on its
own website. Techcrunch published an interview with a "power digger." In the
interview, he admits to selling exposure on Digg front page. Not actually being
affiliated with the website, he uses his high status account to boost stories.
What's the charge? He charges $1200 with no promises of the story getting popular.
Similarly, there are systems that automate Diggs to a story. Digg's response to
these systems: they have complete knowledge of them and have thus taken power away
from the users that use the service. Their response was challenged when an editor of
Wired.com used this automated system. $400 later, Digg's front page featured a
ridiculous article of pictures of crowds.
SocialElves is the new power in social bookmarking dominance. Charging $300, a
fraction of that of their competitors', SocialElves say that they do things the
right way.
"We are different than these other guys. We wouldn't even consider taking a story
about pictures of crowds. We try to do things as legit as possible; actually using
the tools that Digg provides us themselves. As a result, we can only work with
interesting stories. Stories, that would otherwise get a few dozen Diggs - we help
take to the top. We do have connections with dozens of Digg power users but in no
way to we pay or force people to Digg stories." Michael Melen, Social Elves Project
Manager.
So what does this mean to web developers and internet marketers? It's
great news! If you have something genuinely interesting to share, you
can have it exposed to tens of thousands of interested people for only a
few hundred dollars. Unlike other investments, results are guaranteed.
At least with Social Elves, you are refunded for every Digg [under 200]
you story doesn't get. Digg can be amazing exposure for blogs, products,
viral videos, and websites alike. Never before could you be such
"organic" publicity.
What does this mean to Digg? Recent studies have showed that only a
handful of Digg users control over 90% of their content. Perhaps that is
why Digg recently went on a banning spree. Having banned dozens of their
best users, people call this frantic behavior just a witch hunt. Most of
the users banned have told us that they have never used any automated
script or had any attentions of abusing the system.
Digg, possibly feeling pressures from their investors and advertisers, are trapped
by their own system. Meanwhile companies are rushing to these Digg marketers,
getting more bang for their buck than they ever imagined. "[SocialElves is the] best
$300 you'll ever spend! - The best thing you can do for your website, blog, or
product!"
