Blackwell Announces Its Favourite Books Of The Decade

Released on: November 27, 2009, 4:54 am
Author: Blackwell
Industry: Retail

Blackwell, the leading academic bookseller has announced its favourite books of the decade. The list of ten books, chosen from the many hundreds published over the last ten years, are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction. Blackwell booksellers based in shops around the country voted for their favourites, enabling Blackwell to draw on its expert staff to compile a list of its recommendations.

The wide choice of books shows an eclectic mix of titles, including 2 Booker Prize winners and Richard Dawkins controversial God Delusion. Unusually, there is a strong non-fiction representation in the list showing the breadth of Blackwell booksellers reading choices.

Phill Jamieson, Head of Marketing at Blackwell, commented: "Our booksellers have an excellent reputation for their knowledge and love of books. This list backs this up with a thought-provoking selection of titles".

Blackwell's choice of books provides some great inspiration for Christmas Books buying, especially those ‘difficult to buy for' friends and relatives. Phill Jamieson said: "Customers can choose a book from a personally memorable year to make it into a truly thoughtful gift".

As a unique feature of this promotion, Blackwell has also invited the authors of the Books of the Decade and those who have featured in its fortnightly Blackwell's podcast throughout this year to tell of their favourite books of the decade.

There is a remarkably rich and stimulating range of responses, which can be found exclusively online through the Blackwell website. Here customers can discover which novel turns out to be the writers' favourite, and encounter many gems they may have missed first time around.

Readers will find Costa winning novelist A.L Kennedy rubbing shoulders with Guardian First Book Prize winner Robert Macfarlane, and see Orange prize shortlisted novelist Marina Lewycka's choices alongside those of 'Undercover Economist' Tim Harford and environmental campaigner Mark Lynas.

It all adds up to a unique resource for those looking for unusual present ideas or fresh new directions in which to take their own reading tastes.
