DirectRooms.com can confirm that the 2011 ‘Halo’ British Mountain Biking Championships will be held at Fort William from the 10th to the 11th of September 2011.

The Fort William course has been described as the ’toughest on the World Cup circuit’ and the race only lasts between five and seven minutes. The riders start at an altitude of 655 metres and carry on down to 100 metres, finishing at the Ben Nevis mountain range car park. Fort William is the nearest town to the circuit and visitors can find many Fort William hotels in the town, which will be convenient for all tastes and ages.

Downhill mountain biking competitions often use ski resorts in the summer, as the terrain is ideal for the sport. The ‘Halo’ series is one of the most prestigious series of races in the world; the teams practice on the Saturday and the actual race day is Sunday. Riders of all ages are welcome.

The Fort William car park will have refreshments and keen cyclists can enjoy the range of cycling goods that will be on sale. Spectators are always welcome but only race participants are allowed to travel by bike in the Ben Nevis National Park.

Fort William is easy to reach by public transport and has good ferry and road links with the rest of the UK.
