DirectRooms.com reports that four teams qualified for this year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand will be using Queenstown as a base and rugby fans can take the opportunity to catch the players as they warm up for the competition.

Queenstown will be the training venue for England, Ireland, Georgia and Romania who will all be in the city at various dates from 1st until 15th September 2011. The official World Cup will be played over consecutive weekends from 10th September until 22nd October 2011 at the major stadiums around the country.

A total of 20 teams will be competing this year including a World Cup debut from Russia and in total 48 games will be played. The majority of games will take place at Auckland’s Eden Park which is going through a large expansion project to increase the capacity to 60,000 spectators.

Other leading sites include the Wellington Regional Stadium, North Harbour Stadium in Auckland and Dunedin’s Otago Stadium.

On 18th September 2011 Queenstown will also be staging a ‘classics’ match between the All Blacks and France where pasts players for the national squads will be showing down at the Queenstown Recreation Ground from 14:30.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The chance to catch the players from four of the teams train as well as the classics game will mean that many rugby fans are expected to be in the city over this time. Hotels in Queenstown are going to be overrun with visitors so it’s essential to make all room reservations early.”
